| The past several days have been busy for the members of the Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company, with crews responding throughout the area to assist our neighboring fire companies with multiple working fires.
Sunday, August 9
Engine-Tanker 24 and Truck 2 responded to assist Reese Volunteer Fire Company with a working dwelling fire in the 2800 block of Lawndale Road.
Monday, August 10 — 1800 Block of Old Westminster Pike
Just after 5:30 AM, HVFC was alerted to assist Reese Volunteer Fire Company with a dwelling fire with a reported rescue in the 1800 block of Old Westminster Pike. Engine-Tanker 24 and Truck 2 responded.
Units arrived to find fire showing from the rear of the dwelling with a confirmed occupant still inside. The victim was removed by the first-arriving crews; unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries.
The Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company extends our sincere condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic incident.
Monday, August 10 — 800 Block of Count Flame Court, Westminster
Later Monday, Engine 21 and Engine-Tanker 24 responded to assist Westminster VFC with a working dwelling fire in the 800 block of Count Flame Court. Units arrived to find fire in the attic following a possible lightning strike.
Wednesday, August 12 — Unit Block of East Main Street, Westminster
Truck 2 responded to assist Westminster VFC with a building fire with a reported rescue in the unit block of East Main Street. Westminster units arrived to find smoke showing from the roof with workers on the roof. A fire had started while workers were repairing the roof, with minor extension into an apartment below.
Thursday, August 13 — 2700 Block of Old Washington Road
Truck 2 responded to assist Gamber VFC and surrounding companies with a dwelling fire in the 2700 block of Old Washington Road. Units arrived to find fire showing from the rear of the dwelling.
We are proud of the dedication of our members, who continue to answer the call, not only in our own community but also when our neighboring departments need assistance.
These incidents also serve as an important reminder to everyone about the importance of working smoke alarms and having a home escape plan. Make sure smoke alarms are installed on every level of your home, outside sleeping areas, and inside bedrooms, and know two ways out of every room if possible.
